"My vision is that we're going to work on the software," he said, "now that we have a little less pressure. The software we developed, we did in five weeks. Now we're going to stand back and say, 'How can we make this better?'"My interest in this isn't in "flashmob" nature of the event, it's in the parallel computing. One of the reasons Google can offer it's new service, is because of it's lower cost structure. I was thinking about Gmail, particularly about the outcry from privacy advocates who think of it as an invasion of privacy. The only one out of the big 3 [Hotmail, Yahoo!, and Google] who wasn't offering http email was google. You don't think Hotmail and Yahoo! are searching your inbox? Take a look at the ads you're getting. Kudos to Google for having the stones to be forthright about it. I'm willing to bet advertisers will jump ship because of Google's corporate/internet responsibility. I know I'll be shutting down my hotmail account...
