Last night, I hung out with fellow NEO Bloggers Steve Goldberg and Jack Ricchiuto at Ray McNiece's monthly meeting of Jammin' Cleveland Poets. The featured poet of the evening was George Bilgere, a professor at my alma matter (I should say our, Jack was there too). I've never heard his work before, but completely connected with it last night. The bio page at his website completely understates how accomplished of a poet he is. There were also plenty of performance poets there, hot off last weeks gig at the Hanna. Mike Salinger debut a new piece, that inspired Ray to sing along with him doing the jazz poet version of Summertime. But Ray's most intense piece of the evening was his poem based on Jack Kerouac's "On The Road" poem that reads "Whither Thou goest America, in your car in the night". He sung it while playing his guitar, accompanied by his nephew, Sean playing the slide guitar. It was truely a magical Cleveland moment.
