The people in this room were having a comfortable and interesting time; figuring out how to do what the world had never been done before – install wind turbines off Cleveland in a freshwater lake which ices over in the winter. This was a fun challenge that the “task force” believed they could get their arms around.

But the elephant in the room was that other challenge we have in NEO. Education. Particularly in Cleveland. Education is a challenge that doesn’t seem like much fun. And it is a challenge much more difficult that keeping wind turbines standing against the lake ice.

The Midwest Conference on Labor in the New Energy Economy will provide local and international union leaders with tools and knowledge to support the emergence of a clean, job-producing economy. The North Shore Federation of Labor, the Ohio Apollo Alliance, the Center on Wisconsin Strategy, and Policy Matters Ohio will sponsor this first-of-its-kind event, to take place at the Cleveland City Centre Crowne Plaza on October 22nd and 23rd.

“Investing in a clean energy economy will reduce global warming and fossil fuel dependence, improve our environment, strengthen our economy and lead to job growth,” says Harriet Applegate, Executive Director of the North Shore Federation of Labor. “As we change the way we generate, regulate, and use energy, it is crucial that unions are at the forefront…”

Where is the coat you had splashed on last year?

Well I can tell you that the last coat didn’t climb back into the five gallon buckets from Home Depot. And it didn’t go back up the hose into the tank on the itinerant sealer man’s truck.

Where is it?

Some of it’s in the local creek and some is in Lake Erie…
