A sneak peek of the upcoming ish of CC:

There’s something about comfort food and being cozy in the fall. Each person’s definition of cozy undoubtedly has many different components, with some degree of variation. However, one thing holds true: there are a few universal elements of coziness that overlap and one of them is in dining. Settling in to a favorite haunt for favorite flavors always provides a thrill. Looking for quality food, libations, a warm atmosphere and good service? Then this autumn, slip on your softest shirt, warmest socks, and most comfy pants and try one of the following cozy Cleveland establishments…

The stars aligned for our Cool Cleveland/ WAPS The Summit (91.3 FM) party at the airport last Friday. I’ve never felt so much energy in one place! There were young professionals from throughout the region, many from the Cleveland area, that have never seen our airport. It was so cool to see the cross pollination, if you will, of the party-goers. Folks who listen to the Summit found out about CoolCleveland.com and folks at CoolCleveland.com hooked up with folks from the region’s ultra cool southern flank in the Akron-Canton area…

My friend cleaned up, and it came at a good time:

I came home to some great news as well: I am a three-time Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) Ohio state award winner for 2007. In the “Independent Online” category, my feature interview with Nick Kostis, the owner of Pickwick & Frolic, picked up the “Best Business/Tech Story” and my feature interview with West of Jesus author Steven Kotler picked up the “Best Arts/Entertainment Story.” Also, CoolCleveland.com picked up the Independent Online Award for “Best General News Site,” which makes me proud. The high level of involvement as Managing Editor in writing, editing and constructing CoolCleveland.com every week is great — not even to mention working with and coordinating the fine writers who contribute to the newsletter and site…

Here’s a sneak peek of Roldo’s column:

Do you ever get a feeling reading the morning newspaper that it isn’t in the business of news anymore?

The news that does slip into the PD is sparse and not very tasty.

Back in the 1970s when Cleveland newspapers were grasping for ways to upend Dennis Kucinich (you may notice the Pee Dee’s addiction remains), the press critic at the Village Voice Alexander Cockburn wrote, “There is almost nothing so repugnant to humankind as a newspaper in Cleveland.”

Times may have changed; that criticism stands.

You want to ask the old hamburger ad question – Where’s the beef?

The beef has disappeared from the menu as newspapers scuffle and fumble around trying to attract the attention of non-newspaper readers with chitchat, too many worthless graphs and oversized photos. Or on the other hand, emotionally long series of human tragedies.

The paper has been failing to offer the space required for analysis of community decision-making, the information that greases the wheels of a democracy. Surely, the most important task for a general daily newspaper…

Also included is his take on the Sweeney-Lipovan dispute.
