George Nemeth · Northeast Shores Values

November 10th, 2008

From Brian Friedman, the director of Northeast Shores (my community’s (North Collinwood) community development corporation):

The mission of Northeast Shores is to create a better North Shores Collinwood to live, work and visit. But, what is our core goal? I believe our core goal is making North Shores Collinwood competitive.

What exactly is Northeast Shores trying to do? Our vision of a successful community is one where investment occurs as we witness homes being improved and businesses are open and thriving. Further, our residents are safe, educated and our children are happy. Further, our parks are active pleasant places which are known for being busy.

So, what are our underlying values? We believe that our community’s core values are equality, stability, freedom of choice, and that the community is a energizing/vibrant/dynamic area.

What do you think? Tell us what neighborhood and/or Northeast Shores success looks like to you. In your opinion, what are the core values of this community…?

I’m encouraged that Brian is fostering this sort of dialog (since it’s fundamental to the book Jack and I wrote together), though disappointed there aren’t any comments yet—but heck, it’s only been up there one day. I’m also interested to see if the dialog takes place offline as well. I know someone (me) who’d be willing to volunteer to facilitate these dialogs in the neighborhood. Might be a good question to toss into the hat at the Beachland Area Thinkrs & Drinkrs in the evening on 11/20. Contact me if you’d like details.

From Jim:

The Neighborhood Walk will happen Nov. 11. On that day, everyone is encouraged to take a walk around their neighborhood and to photograph or video or draw or sculpt or somehow to document it, and then to share the media they create online…

I’m going to block out sometime tomorrow after work to walk around Collinwood and shoot photos. Will you?
