Cuyahoga County Executive-Elect Ed FitzGerald addressed the Cuyahoga County Mayors and Managers Association:

FitzGerald asked communities for a time table when services could be shared to expedite possible collaboration efforts and cited several successful efforts that are currently underway.

“By collaborating, we will strengthen our businesses and our economic base,” said FitzGerald. “Bilateral agreements like those by Mayor Frank Jackson between the City of Cleveland and partner cities have attempted to address the economic loss due to business relocations. Solon and Twinsburg have also adopted a workable collaboration agreement.”

FitzGerald urged the Association to create a draft agreement on how cities should go about attracting and retaining businesses, and to consider tax sharing or some form of compensation when a business leaves one suburb for another.
