Ed Morrison · Cleveland’s leaders can find a model to follow in Cincinnati
December 3rd, 2010

One of the biggest challenges facing Cleveland is brainpower. There’s not enough of it, and Cleveland’s income statistics reflect that fact. (Research by Paul Gottlieb and Mike Fogarty at the Center for Regional Economic Issues established the connection a decade ago.)
Nancy Zimpher, when she was president of the University of Cincinnati, spearheaded the Strive Together “cradle to career” initiative in Cincinnati. She is now at SUNY and, along with Luis Proenza, has become one of the leading national voices on the role of education in regional economic development.
The Strive initiative continues. Here is a copy of their 2010 report, plus a video from TEDxCincy.
It’s never been clear to me why the business leadership in Cleveland has chosen not to focus on this challenge.
