Ed Morrison · BFD Learning Moment: Portland’s strategy for its software cluster
December 1st, 2010

My brother Thompson has been working on the cluster strategy for software companies in Portland, OR.
This Thursday at 4:30 PM Pacific Time, he’ll be making a presentation with Mayor Adams and the Portland Development Commission. You can see a live web stream from this page:
http://www.portlandonline.com/index.cfm?c=28262&a=230361
Thompson tells me that his presentation will be at about 5PM Pacific Time. I’ll pass along his slides when he’s done.
Thompson has been using his Internet platform to engage the the software community. To give you some background, I started down the path of Strategic Doing fourteen years ago with a conversation that Thompson and I had with his chief technology officer, a physicist trained at MIT. Jonathan advised me to learn about open source software development, and that study led me to Strategic Doing.
Thompson’s company has pioneered the development of powerful tools to engage communities using the Interactive power of the Internet. While he has been focused on working with companies to build their communities with customers, he has more recently turned his attention to using these tools to build clusters.
We will be working together in the coming months, as we have in the past, to integrate our work.
