The framework of using open networks to build a regional innovation strategy has gone mainstream.

For the past couple of years, we have been working on developing a simple, repeatable process to form these clusters. We have developed a practical framework that we are deploying nationally through a new university network, led by Penn State, Purdue and The University of Akron.

We have used this framework, for example, to build the fresh water cluster in the Milwaukee 7 region and a new clean energy cluster in Brevard County, Florida.

The new university network will launch in December in Washington.
