Toni Chanakas · Thanks George

I was going to post something different other than the job search, but I though, why not, one more time.
I wanted to take this opportunity to thank George for letting me post my thoughts; and letting me vocalize the many challenges I have been facing during this job search process.
Recently, I got a phone call from a journalist who wanted to conduct an interview about my job search. This is definitely not an unusual occurrence as to what has been happening in the Cleveland area for several months now. I was impressed that she wanted to hear my story. I chose to be interviewed because I wanted to tell everyone what challenges I have been facing on a daily basis and perhaps open someone’s eyes, that this is occurring and it is affecting EVERYONE no matter who they are. Blue collar as well as white-collar jobs.
Face it, companies have downsized; and we as a community need to be able to ride out this downturn which I hope is temporary. We also need to support one another during this difficult time. I owe a great deal of gratitude to a select few who have taken me out for drinks or for dinner. For that, thank you very much. I look forward when I can return that favor.
For anyone who is in transition, all I can say is “throw yourself out there.” I am on twitter, facebook, Linkedin and of course posting here on Brewed Fresh. Do not stay in your house; try to go somewhere every day. I will go crazy if I stay in the confines of my house. Talk to anyone and everyone who will talk to you. You never know who you might meet who can help you find that “dream job.” You have to keep going. I never thought in my wildest dreams it would be this long.
When will this economy begin thriving again? That is the ultimate question. I think I will be a millionaire if I can answer that question.
I know I have said this a million times, but volunteer. Find your passion, and what you enjoy doing. Next week I will be volunteering for the International Film Festival. If you haven’t been, I highly, highly recommend it.
I would love other comments on the subject matter. Will the economy get even worse or see signs of recovery by the end of 2009? What new jobs will we see going forward in this “new” economy?

Thanks Toni. The signs for the recovery are already here—you just have to look for them. The media doesn’t report them. They’re too busy focusing on FUD.
Keep asking around. It may take a while to get to the optimistic stories but they’re out there. Hope and Change are on our streets and in our neighborhoods.
