I’m sitting in Columbus participating in a very interesting forum on how to integrate federal resources to support auto communities in Ohio. One of the bigger challenges comes in injecting more flexibility into federal programs.
Interesting points: workforce system is doing more incumbent worker training and more project based training. MAGNET and TechSolv are raising good questions about how to focus workforce training support to teach innovation skills to smaller manufacturers.

Update: I spent the afternoon with members of the Business Resource Network that has formed in the Mahoning Valley. The BRN is a three year old organization that connected resources from over thirty organizations to assist businesses in the Valley. It’s one of the most impressive networks I’ve seen in business retention.
Next step: We are making arrangements for members of the BRN to visit Kokomo, so they can learn what we are doing to connect Delphi engineers to new business opportunities. Folks at Inventrek in Kokomo are eager to come to Youngstown to learn more about the Youngstown Business Incubator and the BRN.
