George Nemeth · Mayor Jackson on the Med/Con
January 27th, 2009
A memo from the Mayor:
As you know, the Mall Site has been chosen as the location for the proposed Medical Mart and new convention center in downtown Cleveland. With this critical decision made, the City of Cleveland can now help move this project forward. A new convention center, paired with the Medical Mart, has the potential to create jobs, invigorate convention business, capitalize on our successful health care industry and position Cleveland for future growth.
Today, I met with Cleveland City Council to outline the City’s next steps and the primary issues on which we are focused. As Mayor, I will continue to work with Cleveland City Council to ensure that the entire Cleveland community benefits from the project and that these issues are addressed expeditiously.
As of today, here are the primary matters on which we are working…

Go/No Go Decision August 2009 (from Mayor’s letter). This is more transparency than we usually get and that is something, yes? Now on to the issues!

Yadda, yadda, yadda. The facts for the “potential” are not supported. Time and time again the County has lost money every year on projects like this. They HAVE NEVER made a profit, let alone break even.

What do we have to do to force the county to be fiscally responsible? Who’s up for re-election this year?

wow, Forest City wants transparency and I’m sure it was just an oversight not to want it before (*&^%$&#)

Let’s see Carole, they didn’ want it on the Juvenile Court site, probably not on the Tower City site, probably not on any UDAG projects, and I’m just staying in the city of Cleveland and not going to talk about NYC. Next they will be asking election finance reform.

Never mind re-election, George, I’m thinking indictments.
January 28th, 2009 at 3:58 pm
Hugh, maybe they will only approve the site if Forest City gets lifetime tax abatement
Indictments sounding pretty good to me

Funny, Forest City didn’t seem all worked about about transparency back when it was pretty much a given the project was going to be built on their land. Personally, I would have liked some more transparency then. Frankly, I laughed myself silly when I saw this story.

I’m with anastasia.
This entire fiasco is laughable.
Albert and Sam have painted themselves into a corner.
In the past, when they found themselves losing the game, they came into the room, threw a fit, and tossed the game board in the air. The pattern is repeating.
