stuart · Help Cleveland Decide Where to Eat Tonight With Twitter
March 26th, 2009

Would you like to hear about our specials?
I can never resist the specials when I’m eating at my favorite restaurants. I only wish that restaurants were better at letting us know about them in advance. There is one restaurant in the Greater Cleveland Area that updates their menu every week and I know it draws me to the restaurant more often. I already know that Sapore serves good food but it still makes a real difference if I know that this Friday and Saturday they’re serving smoked pork shoulder crepes with smoked paprika jus, roasted cornish hen with charred lemon and fennel couscous and chocolate apricot tart.
I’d love to see that kind of informtion available for all of my favorite restaurants and I decided that twitter would be an easy way for people to do that. I built a retweeting robot to make it even easier. Everytime I listen to a waitron recite the night’s specials, I twitter them and I include #clevelandspecials somewhere in my twitter message. @clevespecials retweets messages from anyone that include #clevelandspecials so that’s all you have to do if you want to share specials, too. Reading about the specials is just as easy. Simply follow @clevespecials on twitter.
If you don’t know how to tweet or how to follow someone on twitter, please don’t let that prevent you from participating. Twittering is as easy as sending a text message or making a Facebook status update. You can follow twitter in your web browser, from your phone, in an RSS newsreader or in any number of dedicated clients designed for twitter power users. For details on how to do this, you can read a slightly more detailed FAQ or you can just go straight to twitter and sign up. It’s straightforward enough that you can figure it out on your own. Just remember to include #clevelandspecials in your specials tweets and to follow @clevespecials to keep track of everyone else’s specials announcements.
Please share with @clevespecials as often as you can. You can also help by following @clevespecials so that your friends can see him. Or you can retweet his announcements. Or you can post about this on your blogs and on facebook. Link here, to my blog post about #clevelandspecials or to the FAQ (http://bit.ly/clevelandspecials). If you’d like to share that address with the chef or owner at your favorite restaurant, email me your address. I’ll mail you MOO cards to hand them with this information printed on the back. I use similar cards to share the URLs for my blog and flickr stream and people frequenly comment on how sharp the cards look.
Thanks for you attention. I hope this will grow into something that you can use and enjoy.
