Ed Morrison · BFD Learning Moment: Regional Innovation in Northern Indiana
May 20th, 2009
We’d welcome people from Northeast Ohio. Northern Indiana and Northeast Ohio share a lot in common.
We will be reviewing some of our new regional data tools — including a new regional innovation index — that we have developed under a grant form the federal government.
The Purdue Center for Regional Development, in cooperation with Purdue-Calumet, Purdue North Central and IFPW, is hosting an important one day conference titled Regional Innovation: Using New Tools and New Partnerships for Economic Recovery.
Time: June 26, from 10am-5pm Location: South Bend Hilton Garden Inn A “save the date” card is attached. We hope you will attend and will forward the “save the date” announcement to others and encourage their attendance. Here is the registration link.
The keynote speaker will be Richard Longworth, author of Caught in the Middle: America’s Heartland in the Age of Globalism. This is a sobering and provocative book about how our part of America is becoming marginalized and must overcome some significant impediments (largely of our own making), including a reluctance to work together collaboratively and regionally.
To bring some optimism to the day, the program will also include examples of strong regional and collaborative efforts already underway in Northern Indiana…and will also feature tools and resources that can help identify regional competitive advantage and facilitate regional development.
Finally, the new administration is placing heavy emphasis on regional innovation as a key to global competitiveness. Representatives from the U. S. Economic Development Administration will share their views and perspectives on what this may mean for our region of the country, including Northern Indiana.
