I wanted to briefly say, Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mother’s out there. I decided to share a poem I wrote recently, something different from my other posts. Enjoy the wonderful day of Spring.

Awaken to Spring

by Toni Chanakas

Plum and fuchsia blooms, affixed in trees
Cardinal and robin songs
Echo against the shores
Sweet smells of lilac and honeysuckle brush
Tulips and Irises, a rainbow of hue,
Aligning the flowerbeds

A window open,
Thread barren curtain, a current billowing,
Freshening the stale indoors
Sunrays, reflect color of life
Against the darken walls

First signs of spring
Awakens my senses
Brings amusement, and
Pleasure to my features

My bicycle hoisted
From storage
To plow along, a silent path
Long overdo,
A preferred pastime

Embrace it now
For a few months only
Cool breezes sway branches

Soon, delicate, diaphanous petals,
Fall along driveway trails
Due to disintegrate,

Vanishing quickly
Away from examination
Now, a distant memory

Springtime lost just for now,

Transcending hot, humid weather
Will soon prevail

Summer a replacement
For us to enjoy

But, my mind sill awakens, the remembrance
Of spring.
