Ed Morrison · Will Obama fund the Tower City bailout?
December 21st, 2008
Additional perspectives on building a convention center.
The trade show has long been dead (in theory) San Jose looks to keep convention center expansion from worsening deficit Joel Kotkin: If we build, we must build smart
Kotkin’s commentary is especially insightful:
Instead of sports stadiums and convention centers, training for U.S.-based industries such as aerospace, energy, machine tools and agricultural equipment creates high-wage jobs — which have expanded over the past decade even as industrial jobs have declined. Many industrial companies are desperate for skilled workers and often consider locating wherever they can be found….
Most critical, we must combine new physical investments with new initiatives in skills training, incubating small companies and promoting better ties with local universities and research facilities…
Will Obama fund the Tower City bailout? Let’s hope not.
