George Nemeth · What BFD is doing

May 26th, 2008

You may have noticed that there are fewer posts here. That’s because for many links, I’ve decided to use Twitter with TwitThis for posts I’m reading but won’t comment on or excerpt. I’m also retweeting Northeast Ohio Twitter users. You’ll find the latest tweets just below the recent comments section in the sidebar.

Thoughts?

    Comments from C|Net here:

To be clear, Twitter is not the Holy Grail of communications services–it’s an extension of instant messaging and technologies such as RSS. Nor are the 140 characters in a Twitter message a substitute for a blog post or news article. But a “tweet” can be a network amplifier, providing a brief snapshot, innervated by followers and the followed, that can be broadcast around the world in near real time.

Twitter and related services are currently noisy, spammy, unwieldy, overrated, and often unreliable. But over time, the core concepts will become an integral part of the Internet’s communications fabric.

Twitter is a tool. If you use it with skill, it’s an effective social networking platform. I’ve used TwitterLocal.net to find a bunch of Northeast Ohio bloggers. As one of my colleagues at Optiem said recently “finding that my phlog traffic drops when I don’t twitter about my posts”. The data from my Google Analytics suggests that Twitter.com is one of the top 5 referrers.

I love the new look and twitter integration. Very clean and easy on the eye.

    George,

I like it, it feels very Zen, with much breathing space. A new look crisp and clean.

I guess I agree with just about everything posted here. I think Twitter can be a great tool for social networking and gathering traffic for a site but I agree with Ed in that it’s not a replacement for most actual Blog posts.

That said, this site is coming along and it looks very clean (perhaps too much so?) but I like the Twitter integration that you have, although you could integrate any number of social media outlets to different effect. Hope to see this blog continue though and have Twitter act as an extension of it rather than the other way around.

    Cheers!

George, I love the new minimalistic design… smooth and very easy on the eyes.

I’m also liking the use of Twitter for links. Separates stories and thoughts from links and puts them in a nice place in the sidebar. Very nice!
