my economic stimulus is not going to be spent helping my family, apparently. I've been told that I'm spending at least part of my check on "sidewalk." residents in my little town -- led by a mayor who is running for cuyahoga county commissioner, hint, hint -- were really given no warning beforehand and 30 days to rectify problems or the city would repair them and slap the fees (with an added charge, of course) on our upcoming tax bill. confused as ever with this one... not only does my sidewalk NOT meet any of the 4 mentioned criteria for repairs, but it has been in the exact same shape since I moved here 6+ years ago. guessing this might be to compensate for current (and anticipated) budget shortfalls. as expected, the certified mail package offers no option for petitioning the local government, challenging the condition of the walk.

Gas and higher energy costs ate mine before it arrived. It is the height of spin to call this a "stimulus package." The only thing it has stimulated is an increase in the federal debt. And, Toni, it's not free; it's wealth transfer. Somebody else is paying for it, either today or tomorrow, in the form of higher taxes.
