Richard Herman passes along some useful links:

  • Florida gets its first Regional Investment Center to attract job-creating, foreign direct investment for local development
  • Policy Recommendations to Next Administration: Give Green Cards to Foreign Students upon graduation with advanced degrees from U.S. universities. From Robert Atkinson, Information Technology & Innovation Policy Institute.
  • Harvard’s study on the agglomeration of U.S. Ethnic Inventors
  • Kauffman Foundation’s video clips on the importance of an entrepreneurial & innovation economy (particularly now) Here and here.
  • You might also want to look at the studies of immigrant entrepreneurs released by the Pratt School of Engineering at Duke. Here is a summary of the first report issued in January 2007. You can access papers here.

Ten days ago in Chicago, the Chicago Council (co-sponsored by the Cleveland Foundation) launched the Global Midwest Initiative. The day included a panel on immigration in the midwest. You can listen to an audio of the panel discussion from this page.

Here’s a picture of New Chinatown in Toronto (in a suburb called Markham). Wealthy Chinese immigrants from Hong Kong have settled in this area of Toronto.

It’s last Saturday night about 8PM and the place is bustling with the Chinese community coming to shop and eat. The Canadians have a lot to teach us about smart immigration policies.
